Description
This “Thunderbird in Blue” Gourd Shard Necklace features a Native American symbol of a Thunderbird that I wood-burned onto a gourd shard. The icon is situated on an oval shape approximately three inches across. The patterns inside the Thunderbird are painted in shades of blue, green, and turquoise. The copper-toned chain hangs around your neck at about eleven inches, making the necklace lightweight and comfortable. I think the highlights of this piece are the bright copper and blue glass beads, which add sparkle to the shard while matching earrings further enhance the overall look.
I chose the Thunderbird because it is a special symbol. The Algonquian people, the Menominee people, the Lakota Sioux and Shawnee tribes all included the thunderbird in their spiritual life. It is the symbol of their strength, power, and resilience to keep their culture and traditions alive. I like to use this symbol to remind me to treat nature right or we risk facing the wrath of the spirits and of Mother Earth herself. You might enjoy wearing this piece when you think you will need courage,
Wear this on a beautiful dark colored sweater or top and create a statement piece for you and others. Wear it yourself, or give it a thoughtful gift to reflect your interest in handmade art and your admiration for Native American culture. It may inspire you to be as brave as this beautiful bird.
