Indulge in the charm of this unique bird showcased in my Grand Quail Gourd Shard Necklace Set. Each morning, I am delighted as I watch a family of quail walk through my cactus garden in my front yard. They always bring a smile to my face. This favorite bird is always a favorite when I represent it in my jewelry.

This time, I created a larger, stylized version with a special top feather. The shard measures about four inches by two inches. I gave the background of the shard a texture using a dye and painted my design with browns, white, and silver. I then add more wood-burning lines around the border of the shard. I like this addition because it reminds me of a spike on the edge of a cactus.

This design is not just a representation of the quail, but a reflection of the joy and beauty I find in the desert every day.  On this quail, I also carefully cut out a section of the head feather and added webbing to the back to give it texture and interest. This attention to detail is sure to be appreciated by those who value unique, handcrafted pieces.

The shard is on a silver-tone chain that will hang the shard about eleven inches from your neck. I also added some lovely black beads, along with a few silver spacer beads and some glass circle beads. For extra flair, I added the same beads as a dangle and also created the earrings to match.
